History Alive! Meet the North Carolina Provincials!

Fort Ligonier welcomes Fort Dobbs State Historic Site from Statesville, North Carolina to share the stories of Carolinian soldiers and civilian followers while demonstrating camp life and military drills.

General Forbes’ army included three companies of North Carolina Provincials commanded by Major Hugh Waddell. Initially used only for construction work or garrison duty, some of the Carolinians eventually served on scouting expeditions. When Fort Ligonier was attacked by the French in October of 1758, several North Carolinians were killed or taken captive.
